Abstract
The age of AI is upon us, prompting a fundamental question for our community: what does it mean to be a Gopher today?
For a community that prides itself on simplicity, reliability, and clear, maintainable code, the answer isn't just about adopting new tools—it's about evolving our craft. This talk explores our changing role by focusing on how we can extend language models with our own tools, transforming coding agents like the Gemini CLI into powerful collaborators capable of producing higher-quality, more reliable code.
We will then see how the Go ecosystem itself is rising to this moment, with a look at the Model Context Protocol (MCP)—an emerging standard that allows our trusted tools, including gopls, to become model-aware. Through live Go demonstrations, we'll see this new workflow in practice, offering a vision for how we can integrate AI not as a replacement for our skills, but as a powerful extension of them, ensuring the Gopher ethos of quality and pragmatism thrives in this new era of development.
