GoLab for the Planet

At GoLab, we believe that creating a sustainable future is everyone's responsibility, and we're committed to doing our part. That's why we want to go to the direction of a zero-impact approach to organizing our conference.

Towards a greener GoLab

At GoLab, we believe that every event is an opportunity to shape a more sustainable future.
In recent editions, we’ve rethought the way we organize our conference, choosing sustainability not as an extra, but as a foundation.

We’re doing our best to reduce our environmental impact, and we hope to inspire our community to do the same. Because together, we can make a real difference.

One attendee, one tree

In past editions, we planted trees for our speakers. This year, we’re going one step further: we will plant a tree for every single attendee at GoLab.

Thanks to our partner ZeroCO2 we’re creating a forest of 500 trees in Tanzania and these trees will help offset the emissions generated by traveling to Florence.

But for us, reforestation is not just about absorbing CO₂.

Planting roots, empowering women

In Tanzania, deforestation driven by industrial agriculture and charcoal production has led to food insecurity and forced migration. In the Arusha region (where our forest will grow) rural Maasai communities depend on farming and livestock, yet have few tools to adapt to climate change.

Through this project, reforestation becomes more than an environmental act: it’s a path to social change. The trees we plant will regenerate soil, restore ecosystems, and support local livelihoods.

But most importantly, they will empower Maasai women, who are often the first to feel the effects of environmental degradation. With training and resources, they can turn these trees into food, autonomy, and opportunity.

Empowered women are free women.

Breaking the disposable habit

We’re working to eliminate single-use materials from the conference:

- During lunch and coffee breaks, food and drinks will be served in glass or ceramic tableware;

- Do your part and bring your own reusable flask, and refill it at our water stations.

Small habits make a big difference.

No more useless gadgets

For the same reasons, we’ve said goodbye to branded plastic items and throwaway gadgets. We want to give the planet a hand, not more waste.

But don’t worry: we know you love our T-shirts! That’s why we’ve made them available for purchase on demand, in limited quantities and with sustainable and certified materials only.

A meat-free menu

Intensive livestock farming is one of the leading causes of climate change, that’s why we’ve removed meat from our menus. We believe that a vegetarian and vegan menu is a powerful act of responsibility.

Feeding hundreds of people without meat is our way of reducing resource consumption.

Travel light, travel green

Flying less is one of the most effective ways to cut emissions. So if you’re traveling to Florence, consider choosing the train (when possible)!

And to celebrate your choice, show us your train ticket and enter the draw to win a Gopher puppet — and the title of GoLab Environmental Hero. 🌱
